The Centre’s main area of service is providing counselling to those who are facing emotional, psychological, relationship and marital problems. This service is offered to all regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, educational standing and age. Our therapists see individual clients, couples, and families, with a variety of issues, ranging from depression, anxiety, marital conflict, child-related problems, to identity struggles and more. They seek to enable clients to cope better with their situation and facilitate their resolution of issues.
We adopts a systemic orientation as the primary approach to therapy but our therapists are trained and skilled in other therapeutic approaches. The preferred stance is to use the approach that best fits clients and their situation. When possible and deemed helpful, family members, friends and significant others of a client may be invited to the counselling sessions.
Sometimes a team approach is utilised in a session with the other therapists making observations behind the one-way mirror or providing input as a reflecting team. The idea of working collaboratively with clients and with other therapists is highly valued.
Sessions may be video-recorded with clients’ permission for personal review or feedback from other therapists. Clients’ permission is also sought for use of their tapes for training purposes.
